White House Petition to Legalize and Regulate Marijuana in a Manner Similar to Alcohola

Petition Text:
We the people want to know when we can have our “perfectly legitimate” discussion on marijuana legalization. Marijuana prohibition has resulted in the arrest of over 20 million Americans since 1965, countless lives ruined and hundreds of billions of tax dollars squandered and yet this policy has still failed to achieve its stated goals of lowering use rates, limiting the drug’s access, and creating safer communities.

Isn’t it time to legalize and regulate marijuana in a manner similar to alcohol? If not, please explain why you feel that the continued criminalization of cannabis will achieve the results in the future that it has never achieved in the past?

Redefining Rape?

feminineabnormality:

Ok my loves, I just found out about this potential bill a couple of minutes ago and am completely horrified by it’s ramifications!

“Rape is only really rape if it involves force. So says the new House Republican majority as it now moves to change abortion law.”

A far-reaching anti-choice bill, introduced by Republican Chris Smith and supported by 173 members of the House, includes a provision that could redefine rape and set women’s rights back by decades.

Right now, federal dollars can’t be used for abortion except in cases of rape, incest, or when the woman’s life is in danger. But the Smith bill would narrow that use to “cases of ‘forcible’ rape but not statutory or coerced rape.”

As far too many women know, bruises and broken bones do not define rape - a lack of consent does.

By narrowing the Hyde Amendment language, Republicans would exclude the following situations from coverage: women who say no but do not physically fight off the perpetrator, women who are drugged or verbally threatened and raped, and minors impregnated by adults. As the National Women’s Law Center’s Steph Sterling puts it, this new standard of force “takes us back to a time where just saying no was not enough.”

If you want more information about the bill check out Mother Jone’s article or Think Progress’ article.

And if you feel strongly enough about it, please click on the link Redefining Rape? and sign the petition today.

It is absolutely outrageous,” Rep. Wasserman Schultz said in an exclusive interview late Monday afternoon. “I consider the proposal of this bill a violent act against women.”[…]

“It really is — to suggest that there is some kind of rape that would be okay to force a woman to carry the resulting pregnancy to term, and abandon the principle that has been long held, an exception that has been settled for 30 years, is to me a violent act against women in and of itself,” Wasserman Schultz said.

Are you American? Provide feedback to the GOP.

There has been a growing disconnect between the priorities of the American public and the agenda that is debated in Washington. To give power back to the American people and restore these broken bonds of trust, House Republicans are asking all Americans to be a part of building a new governing agenda.

Vote on other people’s ideas and/or submit your own.
They’ve asked for your voice—whether or not they listen is their decision.

This site was developed as part of an official effort to increase the dialogue between Americans and their Congress. Here, Americans are provided a new platform to share their priorities and ideas for a national policy agenda. As House Republicans, we are committed to our principles of limited, more accountable government; economic freedom; lower taxes; fiscal responsibility; protecting life, American values, and the Constitution; and providing for strong national security. This is an open forum, however, where all Americans are welcome to respectfully offer their opinions, regardless of party affiliation and whether we endorse them or not.

It is our hope the active engagement of the American people will produce a robust debate that will aid in the construction of a new American agenda. This website is paid for with official funds of the Office of the House Minority Leader – no political or campaign funds have been used for any portion of the America Speaking Out project.

Okay so it’s at 30-something now, and I’m not a reblog-for-a-cause kind of person, but I think it’d be funny if Fox had to report that the majority of their viewers thought that Prop 8 was unconstitutional. SO GO, INTERNET! GO FORTH!

^Do it for the lulz.

Fucking with the Fox News polls is one of my favorite things about our Tumblr community.

Now it’s at 34% agreeing Prop 8 is unconstitutional. GO FORTH, TUMBLRERS!

Above 60% that prop 8 is unconstitutional.

You want to help? Pay attention. Caring about the condition of our oceans does not make you a psycho, tree-hugging, bleeding-heart liberal, it just makes you smart.

The health of all life on this planet depends on the health of the oceans. It’s just good business.

So watch what you eat, and don’t eat fish that are being over-fished. And don’t pour the used oil from your oil change down the storm drain unless you want your next shrimp platter to taste like Quaker state and you sort of like the idea of having your own children born with flippers.

And go look at some whales. Not captive ones, wild ones. It all comes down to economics, and as long as it’s more profitable to have whales around to look at, we’ll have them around to look at.
If you don’t live near water and can’t get to any, rent a whale video. It all comes around.

Barring that, just yell at people randomly to stop killing whales. It could catch on. Really.

(“Would you like fries with that?”
“Shut up and stop killing whales!”
“Thank you. Drive through, please.”)

Hi Everyone! I know I haven’t used Tumblr in a very long time, so trust me when I say this is important. My sister is part of a rescue organization in Los Angeles, and about 10 days ago she rescued this dog, Oleo, from a kill shelter. In spite of having spent his entire life tied to a tree and abused — you can see where his skin grew over his collar — he still loves and trusts people. My sister found him a foster home, and thought all was well. Yesterday, Oleo dug his way out of the yard of his new home and was lost. My sister drove around his neighborhood looking for him for 4 hours until she found him. He’d been hit by a car. She’s taken him in but he is seriously injured and needs surgery.
She has set up a Chip-In account which is a secure, quick, and easy way to donate. Any small amount you can give, or any reblogs would be much appreciated. There are so many dogs, animals, and yes, people, out there that need our help — but if we can all give a little bit to Oleo, we can save his life.
I haven’t been a part of the awesomeness that is the Tumblr community in a while, but I haven’t forgotten what it can do. Please help.
